The Badlands Are Badass

We arrived in the Badlands National Park in South Dakota Friday afternoon. It was lovely. We set up camp at the Cedar Pass Campground in the park and did a few short hikes and checked out stuff.

And then the winds picked up and the temperatures plummeted and the rains began and the camper shook all night. We awoke to 41 degrees cold....

So we put on hats and gloves and headed to the famous Wall Drug which we had seen advertised on billboards for 300 miles. Wall Drug is a big tourist attraction, but it started out as a drug store in the 1930's and became successful after advertising free water to travelers.

In addition to all the junky tourist stuff that is fun to buy, they have delicious homemade donuts. And burgers. So I've heard...

We also checked out the Badlands and the wildlife even though we nearly froze to death.

We decided to book another night at the campground and were glad we did because Sunday was a picture perfect day. And we hundreds of pictures to prove it.

So far we have seen Bighorn Sheep, Buffalo, Prairie Dogs and a Pronghorn.

We hiked the Door Trail, Window Trail, Notch Trail, Cliff Nature Trail, and Saddle Pass and visited Robert's Prairie Dog Town.

And in the morning we are leaving the Badlands and finding something new!
